Rotary Club 10k run

LLANIDLOES Rotary Club has hosted its inaugural 10K run and promised that every penny would go towards Llanidloes High School.

The run, which was promoted as a ‘Run, Walk or Crawl’ event, took place over the first bank holiday weekend in May.

Bradleys Peugeot garage kindly sponsored the event, with Llani Leisure and Cambrian Mountain Events providing administration and event control.

As promised, rotary treasurer Paul Jones presented a cheque for £1,115.50 to deputy head Jane Jerman in the presence of students and teachers who took on the challenge.

Jan L’tell of Llani Leisure and young volunteers who assisted on the day were also present along with student Jake Beeson who ran amazingly finishing second overall.

The presentation of this cheque coincided with the Rotary AGM which finalises the club’s donations prior to the end of the rotary year in June.

President Stephen Meyers chaired the AGM where a further £2,000 was donated to a variety of causes such as Marie Curie, Noahs Ark Children’s Hospital and the towns community centre.

The donations started immediately last year when Stephen took over as president in the wake of the devastating hurricanes.

Funds were quickly raised by the generosity of the community with three shelter packs being funded within as many weeks.

Rotary ventures such as Concert in the Park and the town’s bonfire ensured funds kept flowing in so that donations could be made to worthy causes.

In total over £10,000 has been donated by Llanidloes Rotary Club and the Rotarians would like to thank the local community for their kindness and generosity which makes all this happen.

July will see a new president, secretary and treasurer take over; however the ethos will remain the same, with the motto ‘Service Above Self’ the Rotarians plan to make the next Rotary year as beneficial as the last for those in need.
