Mynyddog WI
IN EARLY July, members enjoyed an evening trip on the Cambrian Coast train, leaving Machynlleth about 5pm and journeying north through Aberdyfi, Tywyn, Barmouth, Harlech and Criccieth to Pwllheli, where they pottered about for 40 minutes before the return journey.
Despite the rain, the excursion was very successful and thanks were given to Shirley Evans, social secretary, for organising the trip and to president June Hill, who provided refreshments for the train trip.
A few days later they met at the community centre for the monthly meeting.
The president welcomed members and then a minute’s silence was observed in memory of Thelma Watkyn, the county chairman, who died recently.
The county newsletters were distributed and members expressed interest in various events, especially the county quiz which is being held in Llanbrynmair on 9 September.
The group’s delegate to the national AGM in Brighton in June had sent a detailed account of the proceedings there and members were pleased to hear that the two resolutions for which they had voted, regarding the caring of dementia sufferers in hospital for medical reasons, and the avoidance of food waste, had both been passed.
There are local events for Mynyddog WI members in August. First is a tea party at the Trefeddian Hotel in Aberdyfi early in the month and then on Bank Holiday Monday, the WI will organise a tombola stall at Llanbrynmair Show, and plans for both were discussed.
Sadly the scheduled speaker was unable to come, but Shirley Evans stepped in and came with an assortment of craft materials so that members could each create a greetings card.
A very entertaining hour was followed by a delicious supper provided and served by Pat Edwards and Lorraine Kitt.
The competition for a mini flower arrangement in a cup was won by Edith Pryce, with Helen Hughes second and June Hill third. The raffle was won by Rosie Williams-Jones.
