St Padarn’s

Forthcoming Gift Day,/b>

THIS year St Padarn’s has been the focus of the celebrations marking the 1,500th anniversary of the arrival of St Padarn in North Ceredigion, however, in the 21st century, the maintenance of old historic buildings has become a very costly business, and the iconic church which is so much a feature of the Llanbadarn landscape, is no exception.

Over the past few years much has been done to improve its fabric with the installation of brand new gas heating and redecoration of the interior; the much loved church clock has been fully overhauled and repaired; new interior lighting has been installed; and plans are finally well enhanced for the very costly restoration of the magnificent Victorian Mosaic in the crossover beneath the tower. All this work, despite grant aid, has involved dipping into the churches limited reserves.

Thus on Thursday, 24 August, the Feast of St Bartholomew which is being commemorated with a Eucharist at 10am, the church is holding a Gift Day which it is hoped will help replenish its reserves.

All parishioners and friends of the church are being invited to make a special effort to contribute to it.

After the Eucharist, the Vicar, Canon Andrew Loat, will be in church to receive gifts through to 4pm.

Services

Next Sunday, 20 August, is the 10th after Trinity and the third Sunday of the month. Services will be: 8am, Holy Communion using the 1984 Red Book setting; 10am, Boreol Weddi; and 11.15am, Choral Mattins. If you’re a member of a club, society or group, send your news to [email protected]
