Beekeepers’ Association

THE group held their AGM at the Millennium Hall, Cellan, on 13 March.

Mike Davies of Llangeitho, ex-NBU seasonal inspector for Ceredigion, was elected as the new chairman and other newly-elected committee members were: Sandra Halstead (treasurer), Paul Smith (publicity officer), Gordon Lumby (vice-chair) and Siobhan Buttimer (committee member).

Re-elected for a further term were Jan Crabb (secretary), Derek Anderson (apiary manager), Kate Hawthorne (deputy secretary) and Allen Davies (committee member).

The AGM concluded the 2017-2018 programme of monthly meetings, but Association events for the new beekeeping season start with the Taster Day introduction to beekeeping course on 7 April, followed by the series of six Beginners’ Course classes starting on 22 April.

The weekly Sunday afternoon open sessions for members and beginners at the Association’s apiary will begin on 1 April.

Plans for the coming year also include hosting a stand and observation hive at the Cae Hir Gardens Open Day and Plant Fair on the May Day bank holiday and Lampeter Food Festival in July.

The new chair is keen to encourage members to get involved in the work of the Association and suggestions for events and speakers for meetings are invited.

Anyone wishing to attend the Taster Day or Beginners’ Course, or who would like a talk on bees and beekeeping for their own school group, club or association, can contact Lampeter Beekeepers on [email protected]
