Ramblers

BRECHFA, the superbly scenic Crip y Garth ridge on the Herefordshire borders near Hay Bluff, a stretch of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path to Angle, sections of the Two Moors Way and Glynd?r Way have all featured in recent weeks on the summer walks programme.

They have also enjoyed leisurely walks with the Lonc a Clonc group with a focus on shorter and easier routes nearer to home.

On Saturday, 13 July, they explored footpaths ascending gently north of Pontrhydfendigaid toward Hendre Quarry works, a distinctive landmark in the area, before heading due south to Ystrad Meurig. A bridlepath led them onward to Swyddffynnon and to footpaths crossing over Cors Caron to Brynhope and back to the village. A new walk route for the group’s repertoire and one which will be much repeated for its magnificent views and an abundance of flora and fauna along the way.

The Ramblers are also working closely with other town groups and the town council to prepare Lampeter to be an accredited Walkers are Welcome town, a process which requires considerable preparation and groundwork to achieve. The footpath volunteers have also been actively working with Ceredigion County Council through the season to maintain and improve the rights of way network in our locality and the wider community to ensure that access to the heart of our countryside is an enjoyable experience for walking and exploring in.

Custard Queens WI HANGING on the railings outside the Wash Tub at the corner of Station Terrace in Lampeter are some old blue jeans (seen right) which are full of compost and sprouting free, fresh food, as are the planters alongside the entrance. All this is due to the hard work and dedication of Lampeter’s Custard Queens WI. Inspired and assisted by the Bwyd Bendigedig/ Incredible Edibles team, whose planters outside the Co-op store offer free fruit and vegetables to passers-by, and with the generous help of Roberts Garden Centre for the compost and watering can and DL Williams Home Centre for paint for the railings, the Custard Queens have filled the jeans and planters with kale, lettuce, strawberries, herbs, tomatoes and much else, creating a delicious and beautifully presented area to delight not just the palate but also the eye. There is a water butt and a rota of volunteers, but it was not needed at the official opening when the heavens opened and donated a mighty downpour. The rain didn’t stop Debbie Camp cutting the bright pink ribbon with a pair of wellused secateurs whilst corks were popped and plates of biscuits passed around - custard creams, of course!
