YSGOL Uwchradd Tywyn pupils and staff enjoyed a very successful eisteddfod to celebrate the end of the academic year.

The day, which was “full of fun and strong competition between the houses” according to a school representative, consisted of an array of performances, ranging from dance acts to group instrumentals.

There were also some very ‘famous’ faces including Welsh football, pop diva Beyonce and Rick Astley as pupils and staff took part in the mime competitions.

Throughout the day scoring positions for the winning team changed as the competition got stronger.

The winning team this year was Maethlon to the delight of the school’s housemates.

Helen Schofield, one of Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn’s administrators, said: “The highlight of the day was the chairing ceremony.

“This year Cerys Anwyl Roberts from Cadfan house won with Cerys demonstrating great maturity in her writing and use of vocabulary.

“Mrs Jarman, head of Welsh, hopes that Cerys carries on using her natural talent once she has left school.

“It was pleasing to see a large number of pupils that normally do not take to the stage competing on the day.

“The school would like to thank the pupils for their hard work and all the staff that helped during the practices and during the day.

“We would also like to thank former teacher Sali Roberts for judging the day.”

Headteacher Helen Lewis added: “Our school Eisteddfod was a wonderful occasion to be a part of.“We celebrated all things Welsh in a day full of humour, fun, challenge and excitement.“

Pupils and staff participated to make it yet another memorable day in the school calendar at Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn.”
