A large colourful mural has been unveiled on the promenade in Aberystwyth.

The mural was designed by young people from Ceredigion who won a design competition run by the Ceredigion Youth Service.

In December, Ceredigion Youth Service and the council’s economy and regeneration team called on young people aged between eight and 25 to help spruce up an area along Aberystwyth promenade by sharing their creative ideas.

The area which regularly attracts vandalism has now been replaced with a large, colourful mural reflecting the heritage of Aberystwyth, and what Aberystwyth means to young people.

The response to the design competition was fantastic. A panel of four judges chose four winners out of many imaginative designs.

The panel enjoyed elements from all four designs, which were combined into one large design by renowned professional graffiti artist, Lloyd the Graffiti.

Cllr Catrin Miles, the Cabinet member responsible for Learning Services, said: “The mural is fantastic and is a celebration of Aberystwyth. The young designers have helped to add a new and exciting place to Aberystwyth. Many congratulations to them.”
