A CHRISTIAN Aid group near Aberystwyth is looking to the future after celebrating more than 50 years of fundraising for people in need.
Llanfarian Area Christian Aid Group, which includes the village itself as well as Rhydyfelin, Blaenplwyf and Llanddeiniol, celebrated 50-plus years of service last month to coincide with the British and Irish charity’s 60-year Diamond Celebration.
The celebrations, which took place at Llanfarian Village Hall on Wednesday, 17 May, included tea and cake stalls, and a concert from pupils of the village primary school.
Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Trefor Jones, secretary of the Llanfarian Area Christian Aid Group, said: “In the Llanfarian area, Christian Aid Week has been a long-standing event of more than 50 years, which shows the commitment of a lot of people for a long period of time.
“We have three main events during the year. There is Christian Aid Week, which was between 14 and 20 May this year. This is the main fundraising event, and we had tea, stalls and the children of Llanfarian School gave us a very good musical concert.
“We also have house-to-house collections for Christian Aid, which this year went specifically to ease the plight of refugees in Greece.
“And for the rest of the year, the two other main events are the concert at Llanfarian Village Hall, and the concert at Llanychaearn Church, Rhydyfelin."
