The work of Ceredigion author T Llew Jones will be celebrated during Libraries Week.

Libraries Week, which runs until Saturday, 13 October, is the annual showcase of all the creative, innovative and diverse activities that libraries have to offer and this year, with a focus on wellbeing, they will showcase how they bring communities together, combat loneliness, provide a space for reading and creativity and support people with their mental health.

In Ceredigion, schoolchildren will have a unique opportunity to work with a poet and an illustrator to develop their own creative work, all in celebration of one of the county’s most well loved writers.

On Thursday, 11 October, pupils from Ysgol T Llew Jones will spend the day at Aberaeron Library with Children’s Poet of Wales, Casia Wiliam and local award-winning illustrator Valériane Leblond to highlight the creative opportunities libraries can offer.

Gareth Griffiths, the head of library services in Ceredigion, said: “While Libraries Week is a great chance to discover the range of things you can do at your library, from play and learning for children, to managing your health, to accessing free wifi and games, to finding a job, the focus this year on wellbeing highlights the wider role libraries can play to strengthen our communities.

“Providing a space for reading and creativity is one of the key themes this year and with T Llew Jones day falling during the week itself it was appropriate that we remembered one of the county’s literary heroes.

“In addition to the day’s activity in Aberaeron, the inaugural T Llew Jones lecture will be held the previous evening in Aberystwyth Library and will be given by poet Ceri Wyn Jones.”
