Students in Dolgellau have helped to raise over £3,000 for children in danger.
Working with music therapist Patrick Treadwell, learning disability students at Cerrig Camu and the Owl Project in Dolgellau raised the money by producing a charity CD in support of UNICEF goodwill ambassador Hayley Westenra.
The CD has raised £370 which Patrick says has been matched nine times by the New Zealand government.
“That takes the total to £3,330,” Patrick explained.
Patrick started producing the CD when Hayley said that she would like fans to donate to UNICEF after being asked what she would like for her birthday in April.
The money will go to a UNICEF project called Pacific Kids, to bring safe drinking water, toilets and hand washing facilities to 121 schools in the Solomon Islands and create pre-school opportunities for more than 3,000 children.
Patrick has been producing fundraising CDs for over 11 years and they have raised £7,330.
Of his latest, Patrick said: “This year’s CD is different to previous CDs in that it has three impressionist style tracks. One of these is a Doctor Who story and uses a lot of electronically produced sound effects including the Tardis travelling backwards through time and an encounter with the Daleks.
“The Tardis in the picture was created by Tim at the Owl Project. Tim contributed vocal effects whilst Gary and Levi contributed sound effects. Jenny and Gary have also contributed more traditional vocal tracks. The CD was great fun to make and we hope people enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.
“I would like to say thank you to Cerrig Camu and the Owl staff at Dolgellau for their help and support.”
