A CEREDIGION man is riding on the crest of a wave after becoming a Royal Navy Officer.

Sub Lieutenant Kelvin Watters, 30, from Arlwyn, Caerwedros, celebrated his formal commissioning and promotion to the Royal Navy Officer Corps during a parade attended by The Princess Royal.

Sub Lieutenant Watters was one of 154 Officer Cadets taking part in Lord High Admiral’s Divisions at Britannia Royal Naval College.

The former pupil of Aberaeron Comprehensive School said: “I joined the Royal Navy to travel the world.

“I’ve enjoyed being at Dartmouth as it reminded me a lot of home. It’s also been good taking part in the strategic studies, learning about the history of the Royal Navy and developing analytical skills.

“Overall it’s been a compact and intense course, but it’s given me a great feeling and now I’m starting a new chapter in my life, which will be very challenging, but also very rewarding.”

With the course at Dartmouth complete, Kelvin will transfer to HMS Sultan to continue his training to become a marine engineering officer.
