A CEREDIGION youngster has been honoured by the Lord-Lieutenant of Dyfed by being named as a Lord-Lieutenant Cadet for 2017 at a special ceremony.
Sion Jones, who is a pupil at Ysgol Penglais, Aberystwyth, was named one of two Lord-Lieutenant Cadets at the ceremony to mark the first year of Sara Edwards being named Lord-Lieutenant of Dyfed.
Sion, 17, was honoured at the first annual award ceremony held in Carmarthen where the cadet, who is a Cadet Staff Sergeant with the Dyfed and Glamorgan Army Cadet Force, was presented with a sash with a badge of the appointment.
He will now attend official engagements with Ms Edwards alongside 16-year-old Holly Powell, from Carmarthenshire, who was also named as a Lord-Lieutenant Cadet.
Ms Edwards paid tribute to the two and other cadets, reservists and volunteers who were honoured at the awards ceremony.
She said: “It is fitting that all of you should be recognised in the wider community. We know in our world what you do, but it’s important that you have a larger stage so we can champion you and make sure you know how much we think of you.
“Dyfed is a very large Lieutenancy, one of the largest in the United Kingdom, so it is very important that the entire area is covered. I’m delighted to congratulate all of you and welcome you.
“I look forward to involving you and being supported by you in as many official events, Royal visits and ceremonies as possible.”
