A MEIRIONNYDD teenager has received an invitation to the biggest social event of the year.
Elin Haf Jones, 18, will be at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on 19 May to witness the marriage of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle in what has been dubbed the “wedding of the year”.
The wedding between Harry’s older brother William and Kate Middleton drew an estimated global audience of two billion people worldwide and was even watched by the crew on the International Space Station.
The royal couple, who are eschewing gifts at their wedding in favour of donations to charity, will marry in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle at 12pm with Elin in close proximity.
The 18-year-old from Llanbedr, a cadet warrant officer (CWO) in the Air Cadets, was one of 1,200 members of the public invited to the ceremony for their services to the community.
In 2017, CWO Jones was privileged to be named as lord lieutenant’s cadet for Gwynedd and was philosophical about the upcoming occasion.
When asked about her thoughts on the royal wedding, she stated: “I have mixed feelings really, not really my usual scene but it’ll be a good experience I’m sure.
“I’ll be within the walls of Windsor Castle and I’m unsure what role I’ll have although I do believe that there is some kind of parade.”
CWO Jones, who hopes to travel for a spell before joining the RAF as a Weapons System Officer, was wished the best of luck by her commanding officer.
