Eryri YFC’s annual carcass judging competition has taken place, alongside a new competition.

Carcass judging has become very popular over the past few years and this year, on Thursday, 7 November, members from seven out of the 11 clubs made their way to AL & RO Jones Butchers in Llanrwst for the competition.

As well as the carcass judging a new competition was introduced and two members had a go at chicken jointing.

“We are very fortunate to have the support of Arwel Jones at the butchers to hold this competition, as in previous years sourcing carcass for judging has proven difficult,” said Beca Glyn, county chairman.

“We are really grateful to Arwel, as it gives a whole range of members an opportunity not only to compete but to learn as well.”

Eryri YFC is hopeful that the winning members will represent the county in the Royal Welsh Winter Fair in Builth at the end of the month.

Winners were: Chicken jointing: Gwyn Jones, Caernarfon. Stockjudging, Carcass under 16: Ynys Roberts, Ysbyty Ifan; under 18: Elenid Alun, Ysbyty Ifan; under 21: Sioned Jones, Caernarfon; under 26: Mari Roberts, Ysbyty Ifan; Team: Caernarfon.
