ANY sale of Aberystwyth’s current Tourist Information Centre should include a condition ensuring it is not allowed to slip into disrepair, a local councillor has insisted.
Ceredigion Council Cabinet members have agreed to the sale of Lisburne House, which currently houses the TIC, when the centre moves into refurbished premises as part of the revamp of Ceredigion Museum and the former Boots store in Terrace Road.
But Cllr Ceredig Davies said, while he didn’t oppose the sale of the premises, he wanted to ensure that it was not left vacant for a lengthy period like other buildings sold by the council.
He asked if the council could insert a clause into any sale of the building, which will be put up for sale on the open market, to ensure that it is not allowed to stand vacant on a long-term basis.
Council leader Ellen ap Gwynn said she supported the suggestion.
The building will be put up for sale once the current TIC is able to move into its new premises at the former Boots store.
The last phase of work will see Lisburne House blocked off from the Coliseum which is expected to be completed in July next year.
