AN Aberystwyth hotelier has confirmed that he has bought the business, Gwesty Cymru.

Julian Shelley, who runs Cardigan and Celtic Bay guest houses on the promenade, has confirmed this evening that he and his wife will take over Gwesty Cymru from 7 October.

Mr Shelley said: “We are both thrilled and excited to be taking over what was Gwesty Cymru on 7 October.

“Every nice sunny day we would visit Gwesty Cymru with the family and on a regular basis I would say to Anna Maria how much I would love to run a small hotel like this.

“I must admit I love what I am doing already and Cardigan and Celtic Bay Guest House will continue as normal.

We absolutely love the concept of Gwesty Cymru. Nothing will change internally.

“Each bedroom is well thought out by the previous owners.

“Their sense of style and artistic vision should be commended. Each room focusses on a theme centred around the warm colours and romantic landscapes of Wales.

“For now our prerogative is to be open as a hotel.

“We will also be opening our relaxed cafe bar in the daytime and we will be open up until 8pm daily.

“We will be serving fine alcoholic beverages, fine coffee and homemade cakes to non residents and this will become an extension to our very popular seafront cafe at Cardigan Bay Guest House.

“When the time is right we will consider opening a fine restaurant initially on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and will be suggesting that guests outside of these days try our favourite restaurants: Little Italy, Medina, SY23 and Baravin.

For now we do not have an active website. This will evolve in time.

“We are not Welsh speakers, we can not promise to have bilingual staff however we will try our very best to promote the Welsh language.

“Until we have a fully operational website please feel free to email us with booking enquiries on [email protected].”

The previous owners of Gwesty Cymru announced in July that the business had gone into liquidation after first opening its doors in 2007.
