THE ABERYSTWYTH branch of KFC continued to serve a limited menu into the weekend after a nationwide delivery “crisis” saw more than 600 of the fast food giant’s outlets closed.

Deliveries failed to turn up at stores up and down the country for several days from Monday last week after KFC switched distributors.

The KFC on Terrace Road remained open throughout the week, but operated limited hours and was short of several key ingredients as the delivery backlog piled up.

Last Tuesday the store had no chicken on the bone, no mini fillets or lettuce, and was down to its last half-box of buns.

The store was partially closed on Wednesday before being fully open with a limited menu on Thursday into Friday after running out of mini buns, lettuce, corn, gravy and tomatoes.

Restaurants across the country were left completely out of stock of key items including chicken and fries and were forced to close.

The crisis has been blamed on “teething problems” after KFC switched its delivery contract to DHL.

DHL blamed “operational issues” for the supply disruption.

In a statement KFC apologised for the issue saying: “We know that this might have inconvenienced some of you over the last few days, and disappointed you when you wanted your fried chicken fix – we’re really sorry about that.

They also praised staff who were “working flat out” to resolve the issue. KFC supplies were previously delivered to stores by specialist food distribution group Bidvest, but after the contract switched to DHL, problems quickly surfaced.
