A BROKEN lift at Aberystwyth’s Mill Street shopping development should be back working soon, according to developers.

The lift, used by customers to get to Tesco from ground level, has been out of action for months.

Rumours began to circulate that the problem, which has led to Tesco shoppers having to use the travelator, was caused by subsidence.

But Simon Morgan, of developers Chelverton, said that was not the issue.

He said: “During a routine inspection it was noted that a few fixings for the lift car rails were not correctly attached to the steel frame which had caused slight movement to the lift well blockwork.

“The rails have now been fully fixed to the steel frame and the blockwork is due to be repainted.

“There is no subsidence or structural failings in the design, just an incorrect fixing by an operative.”

The lift inside Marks and Spencer has not been affected.
