GLASSES were raised last week at Europe’s oldest community pub, Tafarn y Fic, in Llithfaen, to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
In 1988, a number of people from the Llithfaen area formed a co-operative company and raised capital to purchase Tafarn y Fic.
Since then, it has grown into a social Welsh pub providing a variety of entertainment in the Welsh language and offering employment locally.
In recognition of their achievement MP Liz Saville Roberts visited the pub and will table a Motion in Parliament to congratulate the community venture.
She said: “It was a pleasure to take part in celebrations at Y Fic, Llithfaen to mark its 30th anniversary.
“Tafarn y Fic is a prime example of what can be achieved when a community comes together.
“Tafarn y Fic is synonymous with good food, good ale and good company.
“It is at the heart of the community and is a beacon of Welsh culture, traditions and entertainment.
“As a former ‘local’ at the pub, I’ve seen the hard work that has gone on over the years to transform the Fic into what it is today – a highly successful social enterprise whose revenue is directed straight back into the local community.
“I wish Tafarn y Fic, Llithfaen all the best for the future and long may it continue as a cornerstone of community life, celebrating Welsh language and culture.”
