WELSH learners in a Meirionnydd village can continue their learning after new broadband facilities were finally installed after a “frustrating” year-long battle.
Villagers in Llanelltyd are celebrating after their community centre was hooked up to superfast broadband, following the intervention of their local MP Liz Saville Roberts.
MP Liz Saville Roberts has been helping Neuadd Llanelltyd secure broadband and Wi-Fi access which helps secure the continued funding of the facility.
Concerns had been expressed that events and courses at the hall would be impacted if there was a continued lack of broadband.
This included Welsh language courses for leaners. The issue has been ongoing since May 2017.
Mrs Saville Roberts said: “It’s vital that rural communities and indeed, community centres and businesses serving large, dispersed communities receive the same service and level of care as urban areas when it comes to the provision of digital infrastructure.
“I am pleased that Neuadd Llanelltyd has finally been connected to superfast broadband following months of delays, much to the frustration of local residents.
“I am in continued dialogue with BT and Welsh Government about the importance of delivering superfast broadband to outlying communities in my Dwyfor Meirionnydd constituency and will continue to press for improvements.
“Upgrading digital infrastructure in rural areas such as Dwyfor Meirionnydd is crucial to ensuring that the rural economy is not further disadvantaged.”
