A West End star from Blaenau Ffestiniog will spend Christmas on stage in a pantomime – oh yes he will!
Callum Evans, 24, is performing in Sleeping Beauty in St Albans.
He has joined the company as part of the ensemble and performances at the Alban Arena started on Friday, 6 December and will go on until Sunday, 5 January.
As part of the ensemble Callum has multiple parts to play including the role of a toy soldier, a ghoul, a villager, schoolchild, guard and a GI soldier.
Callum was offered a chance to be part of the Sleeping Beauty ensemble after a friend and colleague on the Rocky Horror Picture Show, a production they worked on together previously, said they were looking for people.
The former Ysgol y Moelwyn pupil moved from Blaenau Ffestiniog to London at the age of 17 to pursue a career in musical theatre.
He has since become a prominent figure in the West End, performing in LazyTown, Miss Saigon, and most recently as Rocky in the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
But despite moving away, Callum recently bought a house in Blaenau Ffestiniog.
“My mum still lives there,” he said of his decision to buy there.
Commenting on his success in musical theatre and pantomime, Callum said: “In the beginning I thought it would be something I would do on the side, but I’m totally into it now. I’m really thankful; I really appreciate what my family has done for me.
“They have supported me through the whole thing. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
The future looks bright from the young star who says he will be going international with his next project, which will be revealed soon.
