CONSCIENTIOUS students are well on the way to making their school plastic-free.
Ysgol Glan y Môr, Pwllheli has already prevented “hundreds if not thousands” of single-use plastic bottles from entering circulation and hopes to become the first school in the region to completely cut out unnecessary plastic.
In a student-led initiative, orchestrated by the School Council and the Ysgol Glan y Môr Eco Club, the school has installed smart water fountains which encourage pupils to top up their own water bottles negating the need for one-use bottles.
The fountains, which were installed over the Easter holidays, have already distributed over 500 litres of water, equating to nearly 1,200 plastic bottles of water, although that estimate is considered to be low.
