NEWSREADER Huw Edwards has officially opened a park in Aberarth named after his late father.

Parc Hywel Teifi in Aberarth was officially opened by BBC journalist and broadcaster Huw, on Saturday, 16 July.

The park was named in honour of Huw’s father, the late Prof Hywel Teifi Edwards, Welsh language campaigner, author, broadcaster and historian who was born and raised in Llanddewi Aberarth.

Huw gave a heartfelt speech about his father’s love of Llanddewi Aberarth and congratulated the community for their work in regenerating the village through the new war memorial, car park, improvements to the village hall and now a new playground.

He noted that, when his father was a child, the only entertainment he had was to play on the beach, but now thanks to the playground there was another space for children to enjoy. He said that his father would have been very pleased and proud to see these developments.
