An artist from Llanfrothen has spoken of her latest work which is on display online.
Alis Branwen Joscelyne, 24, who grew up in the woods and mountains, is thrilled to see her work on display on the Cardiff School of Art and Design website.
Talking about her art, the former Ysgol y Garreg and Ysgol Ardudwy, Harlech pupil said: “Nature is one of my biggest influences and my current practice works to explore various themes interpreted through natural materials and processes.
“I aim to encourage spending time outdoors and to highlight a familiarity and sense of connection with nature.
“At the moment I am working with clay, wood and willow.
“My degree show project is a collection of wood mounted pit fired ceramics titled ‘Byd Bach / Little World’ that you can see on either my website or the degree show site.
“My work in willow is showcased on my website and I talk about it in conversation with my tutors here: https://csad.online/podcasts/2021/06/09/episode-3-alis-joscelyne/.
Alis, who also went to sixth form at Friars, Bangor, spent a year living in France. It was there that she realised that she wanted to study art.
“That led me to come home to do my Art Foundation at Coleg Menai in Bangor,” Alis explained.
“After that I came to Cardiff to do my BA Artist Designer Maker at Cardiff School of Art and Design.
“I have just finished and my degree show is live at https://csadshow.uk/class/maker-2021/
With university officially over, what does the future hold for Alis?
“Carrying on making in preparation for ‘Art in Clay’, a ceramic show I’m doing at the Windsor Racecourse in London this August,” she said.
“And drawing up some plans for holding craft workshops locally in the community, willow weaving and ceramics mostly.
“All very exciting stuff!”
Alis won the Austin Smith: Lord Award for Design Excellence for her degree show work.
