Roads throughout Aberystwyth will remain closed over the weekend, as more high winds are predicted.
On Friday evening, Ceredigion County Council decided to close a section of Pier Street, Marine Terrace, Queens Road, and Loveden Road due to damage from Storm Eunice yesterday (18 February). They later closed Victoria Terrace.
The council have now confirmed the current road closures will remain in force until at least Monday, 21 February.
A Ceredigion Council spokesperson said: “Following a further inspection of damaged property in Aberystwyth and the ongoing risk of debris falling from damaged buildings coupled with the high winds forecast for overnight and into Sunday, the current road closures in the centre of Aberystwyth will remain in force until at least Monday, 21 February.
“We thank the public for their patience and understanding whilst we look to ensure public safety following the recent severe weather.”
On Friday, the spokesperson said: “Properties in Aberystwyth town centre have today, 18 February, been damaged by Storm Eunice. Due to the risk, this causes to public safety, and the continuing high winds, a section of Pier Street, Marine Terrace, Queens Road and Loveden Road have been closed.
“As a result, there will be no access to streets in that area which will include Portland Street, Eastgate, Terrace Road and Bath Street, amongst others.
“Vehicles will still be able to leave this area. However, due to the risk of falling debris, the public should exercise extreme caution and only access the area if it is essential to do so.
“Inspections of damaged properties are ongoing and roads will be re-opened as quickly as it is safely possible to do so.
“We thank the public for their patience and understanding whilst we look to ensure public safety following the recent severe weather.”
