AN ABERYSTWYTH businessman has spoken of the horror moment a man “ran head-first” into the passenger side window of his van on carnival day in Borth, and was left screaming in agony.
Police and ambulance services confirmed they attended a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle in Borth at 7.15pm on Friday, 5 August, and a man was taken to Bronglais Hospital.
Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, landscaper Chris Thomas, 25, said he was at a family barbecue in the village on Friday.
Mr Thomas, who had only just arrived at the barbecue after finishing work, said he was driving in his white Transit van back through Borth, in the direction of Aberystwyth, after volunteering to take a family friend home.
“I was going past the Railway Inn in Borth, and I noticed a bloke standing in-between cars,” Mr Thomas said.
“I watched him let cars go in front of me, and as soon as he saw my van, he turned to his mate and said hold my drink.
“I was only going about 15mph so I could see and, when his friend refused, he put his drink on the floor and jumped straight into the passenger side window of my van.
“His elbow went through the window and his head bounced off the side panel of the door.”
Mr Thomas said he immediately stopped his van, and could hear the man’s loud screams.
“Apparently he has a fractured face and a broken collar bone,” he added.
“He could have died. Me and my passenger were lucky not to get any glass in our eyes.”
