Several roads in and around Aberystwyth have been left under water this afternoon after a flash flood.

Heavy rain at around 3pm today has left a large section of North Parade - the main exit north of Aberystwyth - under water, as seen can be seen in video filmed by Cambrian News reader Abbie Holmes (see below).

Llanbadarn Road, near Vicarage Fields, has also been affected.

Thundery weather is being forecast for the next three days with the possibility of flash floods.

A Mid and West Wales Fire Service spokesperson said: "Since 2.30pm today, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service have attended eight incidents of flooding in the Aberystwyth area."Fire crews were called to one incident in Blaenplwyf, two in Penparcau, one on Great Darkgate Street, one of Terrace Road, two in Llanbadarn Fawr and four on Queen's Road, Thespian Street and North Parade. Western Power Distribution reported that 214 customers were without power in Lampeter as a result of the storms earlier on Monday.

The dark skies even caused streetlights to come on in both the town centre and Llanbadarn Fawr, with Kim Woodfield, who is working on Portland Street, describing it as "feeling like 9pm!"
