A BLAENAU Ffestiniog science teacher has been accused of possessing and making indecent images of children.
Dyfan Wheldon-Williams, who teaches chemistry at Ysgol y Moelwyn, and his brother Robyn Wheldon-Williams, a teacher at Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen in Caernarfon and a former Welsh language TV presenter, will both appear in court later this month to face child porn charges.
The two brothers were arrested in September of last year as part of a joint probe by Gwynedd Council and North Wales Police and were suspended from their respective teaching posts.
A spokesperson for North Wales Police confirmed: “On Tuesday 3 May, two men from the Caernarfon area were charged with numerous offences relating to possession and making of indecent images of children.”
A Gwynedd council spokesman added: “A member of the authority’s teaching staff has been charged by North Wales Police with offences relating to possession and making of indecent images of children.
“As part of the same investigation, a former member of the authority’s teaching staff has also been charged.
“The charges do not relate to their work for the authority.
“When the allegations were brought to the council’s attention, all relevant child protection procedures were followed, and the members of staff were suspended from their posts.
“It would not be appropriate for the council to make any further comment whilst legal proceedings and internal investigations are ongoing.”
The Robyn Wheldon-Williams brothers have previously co-presented on S4C’s popular children’s science show ATOM.
Both will appear before Caernarfon Magistrates on 20 May.
