CEREDIGION special constables have been celebrated for their role in policing during National Specials Weekend.

From Friday, 2 June, to Sunday, 4 June, special constables were out and about throughout the county showing how they support policing and help make their communities safer just for the love of it.

Haydn Bradley-Davies, a special constable based in Aberystwyth, said: “I find the role incredibly rewarding and enjoyable.

“The officers appreciate your help and you get to meet a wide variety of people from across the entire community.

“I’d recommend the role to anyone who’s interested in the police, joining or if they just want to give something back to the community they live in. It’s incredibly rewarding.”

Dyfed-Powys has 89 special constabulary officers from a variety of backgrounds and professions including a teacher, financial advisor, engineer, a gymnastics coach and a marketing officer for a theatre company.

Whether bringing up a family, studying at university or college, retired, or in part/full-time employment, special constables are an integral part of the policing family. They actively contribute to giving something back to the community.

Superintendent Robyn Mason, the lead for citizens in policing, said: “Our special constabulary makes a massive contribution to helping keep communities safe in Ceredigion, Powys, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire.

“National Specials Weekend was an opportunity to thank each and every one of them for giving up their time voluntarily, putting themselves through a pressured application process, intensive training and then in potentially difficult and sometimes dangerous situations.”
