SOMEONE is going to great lengths to damage cars in Lampeter, town councillors have been told.

Commenting on a recent spate of vandalism to vehicles, Cllr Chris Thomas disclosed that the mystery attacker had actually entered garages in order to scratch the paintwork of cars parked inside.

“There have been CCTV cameras at these properties but whoever’s responsible has always managed stay in the shadows,” Cllr Thomas told colleagues. “He’s never in the direct line of the cameras.”

Town mayor Cllr Hag Harris admitted that such a crime was extremely difficult to solve.

“There’s next to nothing when it comes to forensics and virtually impossible to catch someone in the act,” he added.

“Police have been distributing leaflets but as of yet no arrests have been made, however I have spoken to officers and they are apparently pursuing lines of enquiry.

“As a town council we are appealing for anyone who has any information to pass it on to the police. This is not just happening in Lampeter, but in several other towns in the area and is becoming very common in many parts of the country.

“When there were a spate of similar incidents in Maesyderi a few years ago it proved very hard to track down the culprit although eventually a man was charged and prosecuted.

“Recently there have been instances of damage reported in places like Bryn Road, Station Terrace and New Street.”
