A popular, family-run café in Aberystwyth celebrates a milestone anniversary this year.

The Rheidol Café and Cakery opened its doors in 1971 by Peter and Eileen Lees, and fifty years later, it has become one of the town’s most iconic establishments which is now run by their children, David and Christine.

The café moved location in the early eighties from Great Darkgate Street to its current location on Cambrian Street and over the decades it has become well known not just for the great food and famous celebration cakes, but also for the warm and friendly welcome.

Despite being hit by the pandemic, the café continues to serve its loyal customers by offering a full takeaway service and hand-crafted, celebration cakes for any occasion.

Ben Lake MP recently paid a visit to the café to congratulate the family on this notable milestone. He stated:

“Rheidol Café and Bakery has been serving the people of Aberystwyth for fifty years - what an amazing milestone and definitely worth acknowledging and celebrating. The Lees family are true community champions, and I wish the business all the very best for the next fifty years!”
