Storm Barra brought strong gusting winds in excess of 70mph to coastal areas of Ceredigion on Tuesday night, with heavy driving rain also hampering visibility.
The Met Office said a Yellow Warning was in effect for all areas of Wales, with gusting winds driving ashore along much of Cardigan Bay.
Video obtained by Cambrian News showed sea waves lashing ashore over the 3-metre high sea wall that protects the main street of Borth from the beach, and water pooling in areas of the town.
On Tuesday afternoon, a flood warning had been issued for the town, and the video suggested that that warning was not without merit.
Transport for Wales cancelled much of its services across Wales.
The Yellow Storm warning remains in effect for all of Wales on Wednesday, with no let up in the gusting winds and heavy rain through the day, gradually easing late in the evening.
